WORK OF ART THAT HAS LEFT THE BIGGEST IMPRESSION:
Its a toss-up between the 15 collected works of Mark Rothko, in the “Rothko room” in the Tate Modern, and the northern lights “environmental art” I have seen on my ranch.
VIRTUES:
Creativity and resilience (OK, stubbornness)
VICE:
Vice? the recipe is this: 2 parts coffee, 1 part bad action movies, 2 parts sugar sweet additives. Self-improvement? Time. My father tells me I will be late for my own funeral.

WORK OF ART THAT HAS LEFT
THE BIGGEST IMPRESSION:
One that comes to mind immediately is Dali's anamorphic skull painting. While waiting for the doors to Guernica to open, I walked into this tiny gallery across from Reina Sofia. The gallery had a random collection of Dali’s sketches and small paintings and in the corner was the mirrored cylinder sitting over top a watercolour ink blot painting. Dali created the image by looking into the cylinder while painting on the surface beneath, which technically still amazes me. When I actually saw the skull on the cylinder my heart jumped. I guess the element of surprise made an impression on me.
VIRTUES:
Curiosity. I ask lots of questions.
VICE:
I question everything.

Write music. When I was thirteen I had a song in my head and with no technical training except a brief violin stint when I was eight I decided to make up my own notes. I had three pages of archaic symbols but when I looked back at it the next day I couldn't hum the tune - so I danced instead.
FAVOURITE PROJECT:
A charcoal portrait of a baby I did for a children's hospital a million years ago. Went back for a visit and noticed a candied lip stain on the glass above where the baby portrait's lips were. Someone liked it enough to kiss it. Art affects people.

Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat. I learned about it in grade two and thought it was such a neat way to paint, and then when my parents took me to see it at the Art Institute of Chicago I was blown away the size of it. Of course I was pretty small.

THE BIGGEST IMPRESSION:
Tournesols (Sunflowers) by Vincent van Gogh. When I was standing a few of feet away from the painting, it suddenly hit me that I was looking at an original piece created by one of the world's greatest artists in history. It’s a very different experience being able to see the various textures of the original painting rather than a print copy or computer image. I then stood there for several more minutes trying to figure out why someone would pay $40 million dollars for a similar sunflower piece by VvG back in 1987. It’s an impressive piece of art, but c’mon $40 million! I was amazed for many reasons. By the way, $40M would be equivalent to roughly $75M in today’s dollars. Yes, I’m a finance guy.
VIRTUES:
I’m incredible at solving problems. Well… at least at the office for finance and business related items. Give me a problem and I’ll figure out options, and eventually a solution. If I can’t figure it out, I’ll give you a full refund (with receipt only within 30 days of purchase).
VICE:
My biggest vice is having an addictive personality. I’m easily hooked when I truly enjoy something and I usually take it a bit too far. A few examples are 1) Working – I love what I do and end up spending far too much time working 2) Money – I had three paper routes (200+ houses) when I was 12 years old, so that I could earn more 3) Beer – I won’t go into any details with this one. I really need to improve on achieving more balance with my addictions.
