It’s the first time that a full-scale retrospective exhibition of Kazuo Shiraga (1924-2008), who is known as a pioneer of “action painting”, is being held in Japan.

This exhibition is a part of Shiraga’s creative activities  through the following six sections: “Early Works”, “Image of Blood”, “Esoteric Buddhism Series”, “Yearning for History”, “Diversification of Approaches – Subject/Technique/Material” and “Reference”.

Kazuo Shiraga’s works can often be seen at permanent exhibitions in domestic museums, but there are few opportunities to view a number of his creations all together.
