Originally from upstate New York, photographer and designer Andrew Davidhazy’s road has been a somewhat circuitous one. From rock guitarist to carpenter to designer, Andrew’s education has been largely at the textbook of ‘doing’. This interest and curiosity—his willingness to dive in and figure it out—also informs his approach to photography.

Andrew explains, “I guess my inspiration usually comes from trying to solve some kind of a problem that others may have successfully solved, but which I try to equal or improve. Or from solving visual ‘problems’ that present a challenge both technically and visually.”

“I think of it and analyze the problems standing in the way of what I assume or the outcome I visualize,” continues Andrew. “Then I improvise if I have to (I usually do because I am not funded by anyone so my budgets are small) and then go about making a trial, evaluate the results and then refine my approach and try again. Then refine the process once again based on those results and then do this usually several times until I feel I have solved the challenge to my satisfaction.”
