Farmboy Fine Arts’ contributing artist Heather Chontos has been awarded an extraordinary opportunity for an artist residency at the Nefasi Art Space in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. For 10 weeks she will work and teach amongst other contemporary artists in this very special place in Africa. The program has invited Heather to bring along her daughters, making it an incredible opportunity for the whole family!
Participating in this residency will allow Heather to discover and appreciate her fellow artist’s developments and practices, as well as contribute to her own approach and understanding. “I need to participate in new artistic speech and aesthetics, different from what I am used to in my own surroundings, to explore and absorb new colors, forms, and materials and to re-discover the artistic process and theoretical tools through a different culture”, says Heather about the upcoming endeavor. “I am very inspired by the patterns, forms, and connections of shapes within many examples of textile and painting traditions within different parts of Africa, but I am also curious to learn from the modern and contemporary artists working today”.
