Dia Azzawi is a multi-media artist currently living and working in London. Born in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, Azzawi’s relationship to his birthplace and its tangled political history are made evident in the way he charges his works with text and complex ideologies. Widely recognized as a pioneer of modern Arabic art, Azzawi works equally impressively in painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramic, and textile arts.
His continued contemporaneity and engagement to the world around him drew us to his work many years ago. In 2013, we had the good fortune of acquiring his work Arab Market No. II for the Eastern Mangroves Hotel and Spa in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. His work can be found in collections globally, including the British Museum, the Tate Modern, and the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts.
NEXT is an ongoing series of profiles of emerging and established contemporary fine artists whose work Farmboy Fine Arts has acquired, commissioned, or proposed in previous projects.
