Gert and Uwe Tobias are visual artists and twin brothers living and working in Cologne, Germany. Originally from Brasov, Romania, the Tobias’ have developed a unified practice that brings their individual aesthetics and skills into one harmonious vision. Known for their intricate, large-scale woodcuts, delicate typewriter drawings, and energetic collages, the Tobias’ work is characterized by a collusion of abstract art and historical motifs.
The Tobias’ expertly woven visual narratives and nod to tradition through folkloric playfulness and nuance appealed to our senses a number of years ago; in 2013, we purchased an abstract woodcut by the Tobias’ for the Fairmont Baku Flame Tower, where it joins works by more than 60 internationally acclaimed artists. Their work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions globally, and can be found in private and public collections worldwide.
