Named after botanist and explorer David Douglas, and his namesake the Douglas fir, Autograph’s new DOUGLAS property in Vancouver is an homage of the Pacific Northwest spirit.
Our artwork for the DOUGLAS’s three penthouse suites is sophisticated, youthful, and inspired by our own backyard. As part of the city’s ambitious new property Parq Vancouver, the DOUGLAS hotel captures the energy and vibrancy of Vancouver’s downtown core as well its pristine mountain surroundings. “The artistic language of this city is dynamic and varied—a result of its celebrated multiculturalism,” explains FBFA President and CEO, Todd Towers. “Our curated selection for the DOUGLAS presents a snapshot into the artistic vibes of the city—eccentric and sophisticated—reflective of the unique place and people of Vancouver.”
The art direction for the project began with our local surroundings—mountains, waterways, the Pacific Ocean—landscape which Farmboy Fine Arts is lucky to know well. Photography of misty mountain vistas and rocky Pacific shores creates a strong sense of place, rooting visitors firmly within the Northwest. Graphic elements, such as geometric squares or piercing angular lines adds a graphic, contemporary element to works created by FBFA artists.
Key abstract pieces are placed throughout the three luxury suites as well. Textured, dynamic pieces in metallics, grayscale, and pops of color add depth to the spaces, reflecting the sleek, contemporary materials like marble and neon used throughout the interiors.
Throughout the suites, each finished in their own individual style, the art curated by FBFA conveys the intimate connection to, admittedly, one of our favorite cities.
