Connecting to a sense of place
This Hilton property had a variety of sources of creative influence both for its interior redesign as well as for the curation of its unique art collection. Inspiration came from Québec’s distinct Francophone culture and community, with important key components that the city is known for: the beautiful surrounding landscapes, significant municipal infrastructure, and some of the region’s most prominent geographic markers.
For example, the featured artwork behind the reception desk is an artful reflection of the nearby St. Lawrence River, made of 100% recyclable di-cut Dibond components that were hung at various depths as a reflection and nod to the region’s topographical characteristics.
Storytelling at every turn
The art narrative for the Hilton Québec City included strong connections to the prominent geographical landmarks that carried strong historical significance to the local community. Our team found various opportunities to weave this storytelling into every aspect of the property’s art program, including unique structural challenges faced by the architectural teams. Originally specified LEMAYMICHAUD, our team was tasked with curating and developing the typography-driven creative for a prominent pillar in the lobby bar area. After hours of scouring the French archives, our team came across the poem Le Canada by Québecois poet Octave Crémazie whose poetry revered the surrounding landscapes of which the Hilton now stood.
